Still Water

I go down to the water and my mind falls still
No thought can enter in
I went with the intent to write
On the most significant of things

Yet as I gaze upon the surface calm
The soft breeze strokes my hair
The sun is warm, the shade is cool
There’s nought else in the air

No thoughts to grasp, no idea calls
No terror stalks the ground
And as my tension slow dissolves
The wide blue sky smiles down

The weary earth she smiles back
As she cradles me with love
The joy she feels when I visit with her
Mother Earth below, Father Sky above

And I receive their ever gentle reminder
That though I may walk alone
I can always come where the sky smiles wide
To their eternal ‘welcome home’
