Warble

Birds sing for the joy of the day
No more quintessential sound
Than the magpie atop a metal light pole
Singing his joy
Singing his heart across the streetscape
The paved over wooded paths
The ghosts of trees long gone
The levelled rise and fall
Of a natural landscape
The buried streams
The lost dreams

In the manmade artifice
He sings
Of the truth that still rests beneath
The natural balance of the universe
In the darkness you find your light
In emptiness you find peace
In your destruction you find rebirth
In the losing you find your Self

You cannot know joy when in fear of sorrow
Pleasure in fear of pain
Wisdom in fear of ignorance
Love in fear of the grief of loss

If you refuse to die
You will not know how it feels
To truly live

If you refuse to face the demons
That prowl the depths of your psyche
You will not receive their gift
And find your path to freedom

When you fall into darkness
If you refuse to open your eyes
You will not see the light
That guides you home

Open your eyes
My love
Open your eyes
