The Unbound Woman

I am not here to amuse you
To dance for you
To distract you from your suffering
To draw you from your stubborn self

I was not made to be yours
To belong to anyone or anywhere
I belong everywhere and nowhere
Made for everyone and no one

I did not become to save you
I do not bring coaxing words
My hands may comfort
But they do not carry

I have not walked
A path of fire
To wallow in your pools
Nor seek permission to burn

I stand
Upon my own feet
Supported by the hands
Of unseen thousands

The only person
Who can choose your way
Who can walk your path
Is you

Come with your eyes open
A light on your brow
Your heart in your mouth
Or do not come at all
